Barry Goergen began has working life in the construction industry at the ripe old age 16 years old when he took on a summer job as a construction labourer in Ireland. Having found an appreciation for the built environment he decided to continue his studies in the field of construction technology. Barry graduated with a "Bachelor of Science in Construction Technology" in 1998.
Barry undertook his first construction industry based job in 1999 working for a small architectural firm in Dublin, working as an architectural technician. Barry worked mostly in residential and commercial environments learning the ropes. Having worked for the firm in Dublin for a short while it became evident that there was a lack of knowledge in relation to the area of computer aided Design (CAD). Having come to this conclusion Barry decided to commence a full-time course in CAD at FAS which would be Ireland's equivalent to TAFE.
Having the desire to move away from Dublin, Barry took on his next role with Kingspan - Century Homes as an architectural technician. Kingspan - Century Homes was the biggest provider of timber frame construction in Ireland, providing residential construction up to 10 storeys in height. Barry was part of the design team and rapidly worked his way up in the design team to become team leader, a role that he thrived in. He remained in this role for 4 years.
In 2005 Barry and his wife moved to his wifes home of Brisbane. Barry decided to spend some time with his new born son, and dedicated himself to being a stay at home Dad. After six months, realisation of how difficult it was to be a stay at home parent encouraged Barry to re-enter the work force.
Barry started work with BSA Architects as an architectural technician. Through BSA architects he had exposure to work for the Department of Housing and Public Works and gained extensive experience working with "Project Services". He also gained Australian experience working in the residential and commercial sectors.
By 2007 Barry began working for a Building Design firm in Brisbane in the role of Building Designer, working in the large scale residential and commercial sectors. He also decided to further his education and up skill his knowledge in the area of building information modelling (BIM) and from there commenced a course via Southbank institute of Tafe in "Advanced REVIT Architecture". Having gained much knowledge through the completion of his TAFE course Barry went about implementing the system in his current place of employment.
In 2012 Barry decided to start his own business in order to allow him to work on projects he found appealing and had a desire to pursue. Prior to initiating Spatial Building Design, he enrolled in TAFE to have his Irish education recognised via recognised prior learning (RPL) and was granted his qualification of Building Designer and hence forth received his Building Designers licence from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC), formerly the Queensland Building Services Authority (QBSA). Once everything was in place Spatial Building Design was born and it continues to grow from strength to strength.
Once again not to lay idol, Barry decided to undertake a Master's Degree in Fire Safety Engineering. He enrolled at the University of Western Sydney and commenced his Master's. He graduated with distinction in 2014.
Barry has vast experience in the architectural industry gained from working over 17 years in the industry. He was working in a range of different areas from small scale residential through to large scale multi unit developments, including additions and alteration, custom residential, large scale apartment blocks, retail, educations and much much more.
He prides himself in working with the client and listening to their needs and wants, it is his ambition to leave his clients with some more than they thought they could dream of. If you want a better design for your space, chose Spatial Building Design.
